Dimethylacetamide is a polar solvent, used for many organic reactions and industrial applications. It is a widely used solvent in acrylic and elasthane fiber spinning.

It is also used as:

• Solvent in the production of x-ray contrast media.
• Solvent in the production process of antibiotics like cephalosporins (such as cefadroxil, cefalexin and cefradine).
• Solvent and reaction medium in the manufacture of polyimide resins, polysulfones and cellophane.
