Taminco intensifies research of new amine-based feed additives

Wednesday, 4 February 2009

Taminco has received a grant from the IWT, a Flemish government body, to initiate some fundamental research in the field of advanced screening of new, amine-based feed additives. Historically, the potential activity of new feed additives had to be evaluated through extensive animal testing, which is a labor and capital intensive process, and can involve some animal welfare issues. Taminco, in partnership with two research teams from the University of Gent, will setup and validate new in-vitro tests which are based on modern cytological and bioarrray measurements.

These techniques will increase the knowledge of biochemical pathways, and clarify the role of selected amine-derived products on several important production parameters in animal husbandry. This new methodology will enable Taminco to accelerate evaluation of new product ideas and to avoid a significant amount of animal testing, thereby further reducing the time to market for new product solutions for animal nutrition customers.
