Water Treatment

Various Taminco molecules find their application in the water treatment area worldwide, both in the industrial and municipal sectors.

Our Amietol M21 (DMAE) is a key building block for the production of flocculants. Flocculants, or flocculating agents, are chemicals that cause impurities in liquids to aggregate, forming a floc. Flocculants are used in water treatment processes to improve the sedimentation or filterability of small particles. In this way flocculants are widely used for the purification of municipal water as well for industrial water treatment. DMAE is produced through the reaction between DMA and EO. Apart from its main application in the water treatment area, Amietol M21 is also used for multiple applications such as ion exchange resins, polyurethanes, epoxy and acrylic resins, textiles, leather, paints, coatings, inks, surfactants, detergents, drugs and pharmaceuticals.

DMAPA (Dimethylaminopropylamine) can additionally be used as an intermediate for the production of flocculants. 

Dimethylamine (DMA) is used as a precursor in the water treatment application, specifically for the production of coagulants.

Diethylaminoethanol (DEAE) and Diethylhydroxylamine (DEHA) are both used in boiler water treatment applications, as a neutralizing amine and an Oxygen scavenger, respectively. Beyond its application in the water treatment segment, DEAE is also used as a neutralizing amine for industrial coatings and emulsion stabilizer for explosives. DEHA can be used as a shortstopper for butadiene rubber.
