Taminco Completes Major US Investment to Strengthen Position in Specialty Amine Derivatives

Ghent, 19 October 2010 - press release

Taminco has significantly increased its North American specialty amine derivatives capacity in order to address growing market demand for a variety of amine-derived products that are used in water treatment, gas treatment, pharmaceuticals, coatings and many other applications.

Three state-of-the-art production units – for the production of alkylalkanolamines (AAA) and Diethylhydroxylamine(DEHA) – are up and running as part of a major expansion to its St Gabriel, Louisiana site, making it one of the largest specialized amine derivative plants in the world.

“Taminco chose to invest heavily during a time when many other companies cut back or froze their capital budgets,” said Executive Vice President for Taminco’s Functional Chemicals division Geoff Ingham.  “In addition to expanding capacity, these manufacturing improvements place amine assets closer to raw material and energy sources and allow us to serve our customers even better”, Ingham added.

The newly built units became fully operational in August and marked the successful consolidation of Taminco’s US operations into two facilities (St Gabriel and Pace, Florida). Ingham said the integration has led to a significant reduction in logistics as well as overall streamlined operations.  The multi-million-dollar expansion resulted in a total of 20 new permanent jobs.
