Straight plant growth regulator: Belcocel

1. Mode of action

Taminco offers cereal growers a solution for lodging of wheat, barley, oats and triciticale. By applying the growth regulator Belcocel, containing the active ingredient chlormequat chloride, the stems of plants are strengthened and shortened. Increased yield is obtained by stimulated development of the root system. Belcocel is a well established plant growth regulator that improves intensive cereal crops, particularly in difficult and extreme conditions. High performance varieties especially benefit from Belcocel treatment in conditions of dense sowing, fast growth and excess nitrogen, for example. Full yield of such varieties depends on standing up to adverse weather. Laydown losses in such weather can be considerable. Strenghtened plants, treated with Belcocel, represent a wise insurance policy. Belcocel is also used in the culture of cotton and ornamentals.

2. Target crops

Four broad types of cultures have been identified which respond to Belcocel treatment:

  • cereal crops
  • cotton
  • fruit trees
  • ornamental plants and shrubs

The spread of benefits can be observed right from growth development through budding to flower and fruit formation and the synchronisation of crop maturity. These improvements help to make mechanical or manual harvesting easier by decreasing and spreading the number of pickings.
Efficacy trials carried out continuously worldwide demonstrate the many benefits of using Belcocel to regulate plant growth.

3. Application

Depending on growing conditions, Belcocel can be used in one or more applications in order to be sure to cover the most sensitive stage.
