Taminco helps the environment with ‘low-carbon’ activities in China

Within the cadre of Taminco’s Water for People initiative, Taminco employees from Yixing and Fengxian Sites succeeded in 2010 to complete a number of projects to help the environment.

The ongoing goal is two-fold: 1) to connect Taminco people with the local community and 2) to promote a low-carbon lifestyle whereby: waste is minimized; energy is produced using ‘greener’ methods; resources are used more efficiently; local needs are increasingly served by local production and finally, industry, commerce and individuals are all more aware of, and all comply with, environmental and social responsibility initiatives.

To date, projects have focused on minimizing waste, reducing environmental pollution and helping to boost community awareness of green issues through 3 activities carried out in 2010: A Health Day activity, A River Clearance activity and a Low-Carbon Contest. The Health Day activity involved the cleaning and weeding of roads and sorting of organic waste; the River Clearance activity included clearing rivers of tons of harmful aquatic weeds and plants that release noxious gases; and the Low-Carbon contest was a community quiz held to raise awareness about sustainability. Each activity had the support of local government.

Taminco China will continue on the path to its goal through 2011 and beyond.
